Cinque Terre

Despite the large number of tourists who assail the five towns that make up Cinque Terre each year, the locals continue to oppose change and baulk at adapting to their tourist vocation.
A vacation here, and especially in Manarola or Corniglia, is certainly not for those who love “all-inclusive” tourist destinations, but the inconvenience of parking, the difficulties of getting around and the arduous ups and downs are fully repaid by the singularity of the place and its distance from the hustle and bustle of the big city. After all, this area lives up to Dante’s description: “similar to the cliffs of Purgatory”.
