The old city: Orvieto

Orvieto was called “Urbus Vetus” (the old city) in fact Orvieto had been an ancient Etruscan City, built on a platform of volcanic tufa thousands of years ago. The city was destroyed by the Romans, and when another was rebuilt on its ruins, in the middle ages, its original name of Volsini had long been forgotten and the name of Orvieto was chosen. Walking through Orvieto you can see the Duomo that’s one of the jewels of Italian Gothic architecture and have a history work of Orvieto.
